The European Film Factory (EFF) aimed to support film literacy by giving teachers and their students (11 to 18 years old) the unique opportunity to participate actively in film education. The project was carried out in two phases: the first running from 2019 to 2021, and the second from 2021 to 2023, with funding provided by the Media programme of Creative Europe. EFF was led by Institut français in collaboration with ARTE Education and European Schoolnet.European Schoolnet coordinated the development of educational kits for films spanning various genres and eras, from classics like A Special Day (1977, Ettore Scola) to contemporary works like Water Lilies (2007, Céline Sciamma). Following a collaborative approach, European teachers created ten kits following a group training that took place in Brussels in July 2022. Each kit provided film information, analysis, and classroom activities that integrated digital tools, empowering both formal and non-formal educators to incorporate film education into diverse lessons. Reviewed by pedagogical and film experts, the kits were translated into nine languages (English, French, German, Greek, Italian, Polish, Spanish, Croatian and Romanian) and made accessible on the EFF platform.
